There are 2 generally accepted theories concerning hair growth. The first is, heredity determines the degree of hairloss experienced in a lifetime. The second is, there’s a biological clock ticking away in the hair follicles on the top of the head that at some point in time goes off and sets in motion the beginning of the hairloss process.

I will address the biological clock theory first. The biological clock theory just doesn’t make sense. I have seen various stages of hairloss on men since the early 1950s. This includes receding hairlines on teenagers and young men in their 20s, and completely full heads of hair on men over 50; one of them in his 70s. If the biological clock theory were to hold water, then the start of the hairloss process would be more consistent in all men. End of story.

As far as the heredity issue is concerned, there is no question that heredity plays a small role in the hair growth process. Just as with other aging indicators (such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and arthritis), heredity determines how easy or not it is for you to succumb to these aging related afflictions. However, whether or not you do succumb to these aging related afflictions is determined by your lifestyle choices. The same holds true for hair growth. It is your lifestyle choices that will determine whether you continue to grow a full head of hair, or lose some or all of it in your lifetime.

The Hairgrowth Cycle begins with the hair follicles dropping their hair at the end of the growth cycle which occurs at random. Each hair grows for 3-5 years. It then withers and falls out over a period of 1 month. The hair follicle then goes dormant for a period of 3 months. A new hair then begins to grow and the cycle repeats itself over and over again. When the hair follicle does not receive adequate amounts of nutrients needed for hair to grow, the hair growth cycle is shortened and the hair shaft gets thinner with every full cycle of the hair growth process. The variables that determine how successful one is at growing hair are the nutrients that are available at the time the hair is about to begin its growth cycle, and the circulation and metabolism needed to effectively deliver the nutrients into the hair follicles.

The focus of this Blog site is “Reversing aging with an emphasis on hair growth.” Hair growth is the first aging issue that I identified as an “aging indicator” while I was searching for the hair growth secrets. While in pursuit of discovering the secrets to hair growth, I learned that there are no secrets to the strong growth of a full hairline. Instead, I discovered that there are common lifestyle activities and habits that men and women with full heads of hair routinely practice. And those men and women who don’t routinely practice the common lifestyle activities and habits that support hair growth, suffer the consequence of thinning hair that eventually leads to noticeable hair loss. I documented my findings in my book titled, “HealthAnalysis Hair Growth System (HGS).”

The HGS eBook provides the information you need to make the necessary changes to your lifestyle that will compensate for the less than best lifestyle choices you make. In so doing, the changes you make to your diet, level of activity, and supplementation will bring your lifestyle back into balance so you can begin to grow and maintain the hairline of your youth; and lower the risk of succumbing other aging related afflictions.

Resistance training, or working out with weights, is a stressful activity. By definition, stressful activities are bad for hair growth. However, there are men and women who routinely workout with weights and resistance machines and don’t feel stressed at all and some even have full heads of hair.

So what is the difference? The difference is these men and women enjoy their workouts with weights. As for me, weight training is a necessary activity that I need to do in order to maintain muscle tone and strength, bone density, higher metabolism, and produce growth hormones that will help me stay healthy. This all sounds great. However, I don’t enjoy weight training. Moreover, it is a stressful activity for me. Because it is stressful for me to engage in weight lifting, it causes my hair to thin, and if I continue weight training over a long period of time, my hairline to recede.

So what do I do about that? Well, I go back to my hair growth basics and follow the hair growth principles in my book, “HealthAnalysis Hair Growth System (HGS),” more closely. In so doing, I compensate with more hair growth producing exercise activities and diet practices. And it works for me every time.

This past year, I embarked on an aggressive bodybuilding program. I was building muscle mass and was very happy with the progress I was making. Unfortunately, within the 6 months (May through December 2010) that I spent bodybuilding, I also watched my hairline thin at my forehead, and begin to break up and recede. I tried to compensate for the hairloss by walking more as part of my weight lifting routine to “calm” my body down; but it wasn’t enough. I also tried a variety of diet regimens, that I have developed over the years and know that work for hair growth, but they were not enough to overcome the stress associated with weight lifting.

I experienced the same negative effect when I lifted weights in 2009. In 2009, I tried other exercise and diet routines that did not work. I stopped lifting weights because I saw my hairline thin. The good news is, I am compiling a list of exercise and diet routines that do work. In other words, as I experiment with weight lifting, diet regimens, and lower level activity exercise routines, my analysis gets sharper and over time I note the activities that do work. Eventually, I will be able to put together the pieces of a puzzle that will allow me to work out with weights and grow a strong hairline as well.

For instance, one of the reasons I was unsuccessful at growing muscle and hair simultaneously is, I was not spending enough time on my work out sessions. But how much time is enough to build muscle and at the same time grow hair? In my book, I cover the story of Dave C. Dave worked out routinely with weights and had the hairline of a 12 year old. Dave’s success with hair growth was due to his work out sessions being several hours long 6 days a week. I don’t have that kind of time to devote to bodybuilding or hair growth. I suspect that most of you out there don’t have that kind of time either. But I do know that you all would embrace a plan that helps you grow muscle and a full head of hair while spending the minimal amount of time necessary to accomplish both objectives.

Because weight lifting is not my focus, I decided to not spend a lot of time on resistance training and, instead, follow a different strategy. I went back to my book and began to follow my own plan more closely. As a result, my hairline has stabilized and I am re-growing my hair to the thickness it was before I began lifting weights. Once my hair thickens sufficiently, I will begin longer workout sessions with lighter weights – like Dave C. in my HGS book - so I can lift weights and build muscle mass while continuuing to grow and maintain a great hairline.

How much time will I need to spend working out to accomplish both objectives? My HGS book provides step-by-step instructions on how to accomplish hair growth with a minimal amount of time exercising. The step-by-step instructions allow you to develop a program tailored to meet your exercise and hair growth needs. I will return to weight lifting soon, and with the help of my book will spend the least amount of time exercising while achieving an impressive muscle tone and great hairline.

The good news is, it can be done via healthy lifestyle choices. The bad news is, it takes time. It takes time to turn around the illness, and it also takes time to learn which healthy lifestyle choices work best for you. The time to learn this is not after you are informed that you are sick. The sooner you learn how to apply healthy lifestyle principles to your life, the quicker you will get into the habit of putting the principles into practice every day.

I have 2 friends that became very ill in the past 1-2 years (2008-2007). One had cancer, and the other a degenerative nerve problem that is rendering him paralyzed. As I provided them with healthy lifestyle choices that could make a difference in how they feel – and possibly turn their illnesses around so they can get healed – I realized that they were also receiving health information from other well meaning friends. So who are they to believe? The answer is no one. They were both too emotionally involved with the consequences of their illnesses to make decisions based on too little health knowledge. In other words, they did not know who to believe or what to do because of lack of knowledge in that area of their lives.

My recommendation to all of my Blog readers is to get started now learning all you can about health and nutrition so you don’t get to experience serious health issues like those mentioned above. And if you do, you will know exactly how to analyze your situation and make the changes necessary for you to get healed. The opportunity to begin the healing process is during the short window of time that doctors take to do their own analysis and review blood work numbers. However, once a doctor decides to take aggressive action with drugs and/or surgery, you will need to follow your doctor’s advice. But, if you can turn blood work numbers around during the “window of opportunity,” you can postpone or avert the use of drugs or the operating table.

So do continue to read my Blogs and let friends and acquaintences know about this Blogsite. I, in turn, will continue to do everything I can to help my readers become knowledgeable in the area of health and nutrition, and to make healthy lifestyle choices by providing free training listed under the Category titled “Training.” As you become more knowledgeable, you will be able to make the best choices to stay healthy. And in the event you happen to become ill, you will know what steps to take to get healed during the “window of opportunity.”

By the way: The friend with a deteriorating nerve disease is not doing well. The friend with cancer had the cancer surgically removed, and is now very focused on making the best lifestyle choices possible. He was fortunate in that his cancer was not agressive. Had he been diagnosed with a more agressive form of cancer, he would not have been able to make the necessary lifestyle changes in time to make a difference; and he would be dead today. In other words, his lack of health knowledge delayed his taking action, and almost killed him.

My approach is different. Just like the advice provided by the health experts, I lower the stress in my life by making smarter food choices, engage in exercise routines designed to increase the ability of my body to repair itself and grow, and follow a supplementation program that will increase my body’s efficiency. However, I have gone a giant step further by providing a plan that works and that all can easily follow. You can follow the same regimen that helps me reduce the stress in my life, and reap all the health benefits I have received, by following the recommended lifestyle changes provided in my book titled, “HealthAnalysis Hair Growth System (HGS).”

Why is my focus on hair growth when I am talking stress management? The answer is the information that I provide that helps to reverse hair loss and all the other health/aging indicators has managing the body’s stress response at the center of the plan. What I have found over the many years of trial and error testing is that the lifestyle changes that effect hair growth – and the other health/aging indicators – are the lifestyle changes that lower the stress response. Moreover, the lifestyle changes that I will cover in more detail on this Blog Site have consistently worked for me and will work for you too.

The health/aging indicators (hair growth, youthful skin, strong eyesight, joint flexibility, etc.) also provide useful feedback to help you achieve a healthier lifestyle. The deterioration of the health indicators is considered to be a normal part of the aging process. Nothing could be farther from the truth! In my opinion, by focusing on maintaining youthful health indicators, aging is effectively reversed. Your hair loss, a normal occurrence in the re-growth process of the hair, can be minimized and your hairline restored to its youthful fullness with a balanced lifestyle. Rickety joints can be prevented and in most cases reversed. Osteoporosis can be minimized and in some cases reversed. Weathered skin will regain its youthful appearance. Eyesight will be restored to its original strength. And last but not least, your libido will increase to your preferred liking.

If you find all this hard to believe, just remember that the body is a machine that is capable of rebuilding itself. With the proper nutrition and exercise focused on managing the stress response of the body, the body can overcome the effects of stress and maintain its youthfulness and vitality indefinitely. And yes, immortality would be an unrealistic expectation. However, I can promise a higher quality of life with reduced risks of debilitating diseases that are normally associated with aging.

This is not an idle promise. The literature that I have read since 1970 supports the theories and principles behind the promises I make. These theories and principles are also supported by both clinical studies referenced in the literature I’ve read, and which I have confirmed by tests that I have conducted on myself since 1970. The results of my tests have been amazing. All of my friends and acquaintances cannot guess my age correctly. The typical placement of my age varies from 10 to 20 years younger than I am.

I am thankful every day that I have been able to uncover the lifestyle activities that help me overcome stress, and that I consistently feel more energetic than I did 35 years ago. I invite you to follow my Blogs, so you too can enjoy higher energy levels while growing a full head of hair with very little to no gray.

The program was about a discussion on the Balding Gene. On the program, there were 2 men that were used as examples. One of them has a relatively full head of hair while the other is bald. I did not stay long enough to watch the entire program. However, I believe I knew where they were going with the presentation. That is, the fellow with the full head of hair does not have the Balding Gene whereas the bald headed fellow does.

I remember the medical experts saying the same thing about heart disease, arthritis, and middle age spread prior to the mid-80s. They attributed heart disease, arthritis, and middle age spread (putting on weight around the hips) to heredity (genetic makeup). Since then, the medical experts have quietly conceded that lifestyle plays a much larger role in preventing or slowing down the progression of heart disease and arthritis, while it is all a lifestyle issue in the case of middle age spread. In fact, doctors are now recommending exercise and healthy diet choices to their patients, along with the medications they prescribe, as part of a total treatment for heart disease and arthritis. The message is clear: They have finally accepted the positive role that diet and exercise plays in their patients’ overall health.

This issue of putting the cause squarely on heredity, when the medical establishment cannot provide a cause or cure for a medical condition, has been going on for decades. It seems that when they cannot provide a cure for an affliction, or they cannot explain what causes it, they point to heredity as the problem. So it was with heart disease, arthritis, and middle age spread, and so it still is with hair loss. They don’t know what causes hair loss so they blame it on the Balding Gene (heredity).

I have spent over 40 years working to understand the hair loss and hair growth process. After much research, interviews with men with full hairlines, and tests to study which lifestyle practices effectively grow hair, I have come to the conclusion that hair loss is not due to heredity; it is a lifestyle issue. In other words, I have discovered that maintaining healthy eating habits and being active will in addition to keeping you healthy, help you grow and maintain a full head of hair. This is the essence of my hair growth plan in my book. It takes healthy lifestyle choices to a level higher with specific choices that, when followed, will guarantee that you will grow and maintain a full head of hair.

In my book titled “HealthAnalysis Hair Growth System,” I document all the information that you would need to understand the hair growth process. I also provide an easy to follow step-by-step plan that will help you re-grow lost hair and maintain a full head of hair. Click on Hair Growth Book on this webpage to preview the first 13 pages of my book. I believe you will be convinced that my knowledge of the hair growth process and the lifestyle changes necessary to effect healthy hair growth is in-depth and backed by thorough and detailed research.

Moreover, my book emphasizes the underlying theme of hair growth as being healthy lifestyle practices that promote strong hair growth. Growing hair easily is a wonderful thing. However, what good is growing a full head of hair if you are otherwise falling apart physically. When you follow the plan for hair growth in my book, you will – in addition to re-growing and maintaining a full head of hair – improve your overall health profile.

So what about the answer to whether or not you have the Balding Gene? I have proven that hair growth is a lifestyle issue. My hair stylist will attest to that fact. Therefore, it is my opinion that there is no Balding Gene. So you don’t have to worry any longer about having the Balding Gene or not, because you don’t. Hair growth and hair loss is predictable and, therefore, controllable. Read my book and follow the plan for hair growth, and you will in addition to growing and maintaining a full head of hair, be healthier for the rest of your life – guaranteed!

In 1964, I read an article in Life magazine on reversing aging. The article explained how the antioxidant vitamins E and C, and the mineral Selenium when present in adequate amounts in the body, neutralize free radicals created when cells split into two. Without the antioxidants, the free radicals kill off more cells than are produced thereby causing degeneration or aging. With the antioxidants present, cell reproduction occurs without any loss of cells resulting in regeneration. What I understood the article to be saying at the time, is that the health implications of taking antioxidant vitamins and minerals are huge. If you want your body to regenerate and not show it’s age, then you need to add adequate amounts of antioxidant vitamins and minerals to your health plan.

The antioxidant news gets even better. Over the past 40 plus years, the list of antioxidants has expanded to include vitamins A and B Complex, Beta Carotene, the mineral Zinc (as the enzyme SOD in the body), and phytochemicals (found in fuits, vegetables, and herbs). Most phytochemicals have antioxidant properties. They protect cells from damage and reduce the risk of developing certain types of cancer. The Isoflavones, found in soy, help reduce menopausal symptoms and osteoporosis. Indoles in cabbage can reduce the risk of breast cancer. The other antioxidant phytochemicals are Allyl Sulfides (garlic, onions, leeks), Carotenoids (fruits, carrots), Flavonoids (fruits, vegetables), and Polyphenols (tea, grapes). There is research completed and ongoing that identifies the specific degenerative diseases that antioxidant vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals can successfully prevent or in some cases effectively treat. The research information has been used by companies that produce nutritional products to develop products that effectively deliver the health benefits that antioxidants can provide.

It goes without saying that getting the vitamins and minerals your body needs is important for the body to operate efficiently and in good health. However, if you want to reap the benefits of true age reversal, then you need to take extra amounts of the antioxidant vitamins and minerals and eat a variety of fruits, vegetables, and legumes (particularly soy) that add to your diet a full spectrum of phytochemicals. In 1964, immediately after reading the article in Life, I began taking extra antioxidant vitamins and minerals. In 1988, I shifted my focus to high quality nutritional products that are backed by independent clinical studies. The products that I use (Shaklee) provide me with high quality antioxidant vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals that have helped me reverse the aging process and maintain my overall health and wellness over the past 3 decades.

Before I went with my family on a 5-day cruise on May 1, I was experiencing hip joint discomfort. It is a recurring issue I’ve had with arthritis that began around 1992. My first episode was lower back pain. The second, between 1993 and 1994, was my neck vertebrae. The second arthritis episode was the worse. I was out of work for a week with excruciating neck pain.

I resolved those 2 arthritis episodes by cutting back on my protein and dairy; in other words, by managing my diet. But just before I retired from Federal government service in 2004, I began experiencing hip joint issues. So prior to my departure on the cruise, my concern was that I would be eating too much food including protein and dairy on the ship, and my hip discomfort would spin out of control ruining my expensive cruise vacation.

On the ship, I ate large breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals every day. The lunch and dinner meals included tasty desserts. I also ate a lot of salad stuff. To my amazement, by the second day on the ship my joint issues disappeared. So what happened?

As best as I can figure, I was eating large portions of protein with small portions of carbohydrates. The meals met the Protein-Carbohydrate balances covered in the Dr. Atkins “Atkins Diet,” and Dr. Sears “Zone Diet.” The cruise chefs did an awesome job of preparing healthy meals that are nutritious and help to control one’s weight.

What I did not do was snack at the less formal buffet style dining area where food was available almost all day long. I also shied away from the hamburgers, pizza, and sticky buns available until 2:00AM. The truth is that with all the activities on-board the ship, we were rushing to get ready for each of the 3 main meals in the formal dining room and did not have time to eat anywhere else.

As far as the Atkins’ and Zone diets are concerned: Dr. Sears does not cover the higher Carbohydrate-Protein ratios that meet the needs of individuals that are active at higher levels of activity. Dr. Atkins’ plan, in his “New Diet Revolution” book discusses increasing one’s carbohydrate intake to meet one’s need, but does not describe in sufficient detail (my opinion) how to get there. The reason for the shortcomings that I have described is Dr. Sears’ and Dr. Atkins’ books target only weight loss in detail. They mention other health benefits, but the benefits provided in their plans are not well covered.

I spent the past 4 months testing different Carbohydrate-Protein ratios and have determined that Dr. Sears and Dr. Atkins have contributed greatly to the education of the general public with their health books. I can also attest to the fact that without the information presented in their books, I would not be as far along as I have come to reversing the aging indicators (hair loss, arthritis, muscular atrophy, etc.).

As a result of my reading the books by Dr. Sears and Dr. Atkins and other health books plus my trial and error testing, I have turned around my arthritis. I no longer worry about my arthritis cropping up and spiraling out of control. If it does, I adjust my diet and the symptoms disappear.

In effect, I have dealt my arthritis issue a crippling blow! I plan to complete my research on arthritis prevention and document the results with an easy to follow plan in one of my future publications. The book should be posted on this website in early to mid-2011.

Note: I do not recommend that the Atkins or Zone diets be followed exclusively all day long for long periods of time. They each target a specific metabolic process in the body without regard to other important metabolic processes.
